Week 6 Preview 2026 - Georgia
Hello and Roll Tide!
Alabama hosts Georgia in a top-10 showdown Saturday night in Tuscaloosa. This is already the 4th matchup between Kalen DeBoer and Kirby Smart with Kalen leading the series 2-1. Georgia and Alabama enter the contest as the top-2 scoring offenses in the nation. Two programs built with defensive identities find themselves with explosive offenses. While not traditional rivals, the SEC simply cannot pass up on TV ratings as these two programs are set to match up for the third year in a row in the regular season. They will not play in 2027, then the Tide will travel to Athens in 2028. The 77th chapter of Alabama vs Georgia should be an exciting one! Below are injury updates, a Georgia preview, and week 6 storylines. Let’s go!
Injury Updates:
- Josh Ford broke his arm against Miss State yet he’s listed as QUESTIONABLE to play against Georgia
- Justin Hill and Dez Zulu are listed as OUT
- Freshman DB Jorden Edmonds is QUESTIONABLE
- Right tackle Jayvin James is absent from the list and will be available to play
Week 6 Preview: Georgia Bulldogs
The Georgia Bulldogs are led by Kirby Smart in his 11th season of a hall of fame career. The Dawgs are 122-21 (72-12 SEC) with Kirby at the helm and have won two national championships (2021 &2022). Even with all of these accomplishments, Kirby continues to have one blemish on his resume: Alabama. Kirby is 2-7 against the Tide, with both wins coming in the postseason. When Saban retired, many Bulldog fans hoped for change, yet he is 1-2 against Kalen DeBoer. Georgia had the talent edge in the last 3 matchups, yet twice he was out-coached in the regular season. However, he did get the last laugh, decimating Alabama 28-7 in the SEC Championship. On paper, these are two of the most talented teams in the country so Saturday night will come down to which coaching staff is best prepared for the heavyweight bout. On the offensive side of the ball, Gunner Stockton leads the Bulldogs at quarterback. A returning starter, Stockton passed for 2,894 yards with 24 touchdowns a season ago. Through 5 games, Stockton has been very effective, passing for over 1,000 yards with 13 touchdowns (2nd in the SEC). It is worth noting that over 80% of his passing attempts are within 10-yards of the line of scrimmage. The star studded cast around him have been able to generate yards after the catch. Freshman Craig Dandridge leads Georgia in receiving, averaging 19.7 yards per reception. He is a deep-ball threat and has a catch for 61-yards this season. Alongside Dandridge is sophomore Talyn Taylor who leads the Bulldogs with 3 touchdowns. Stockton likes to dump the ball off to running back Chauncey Bowens who has 10 catches this season, but Bowens was ruled OUT for the Alabama game. Dwight Phillips is the next highest receiving back with 7 catches. Another receiving threat for the Bulldogs is tight end Lawson Luckie. This senior is 6’4 240lbs, strikingly similar to Brock Bowers. While he doesn’t have the stats that the NFL All-Pro did, Luckie is a difficult matchup in the red zone. Georgia will return starting running back Nate Frazier for the Alabama game. He missed the Oklahoma game and only recorded 4 snaps against Vanderbilt. Frazier led the Bulldogs in 2025 with 947 rushing yards and is currently averaging 8.1 yards per carry for the Dawgs. Georgia’s defense is one of the most talented groups in the country. Georgia typically operates a 3-3-5 defense (3 defensive lineman, 3 linebackers, and 5 defensive backs). The defensive line is led by 5-stars Jordan Hall and Elijah Griffin, and rounded out with 4-stars Gabe Harris and Joseph Jonah-Ajonye. Behind them are linebackers Quintavius Johson, Raylen Wilson, and soon to be NFL 1st round pick, Chris Cole. This elite front-7 is holding opposing offenses to 57.4 rushing yards per game (3rd best in the nation). Linebackers Raylen Wilson and Chris Cole lead Georgia with 27 and 22 tackles respectively. Wilson is the leader of the defense, carrying the green-dot responsibilities. He leads the team in sacks (with 3) and forced fumbles (2). This front seven will make it very difficult to run the football. Georgia could improve in their pass-rush as they currently sit 9th in the SEC with 13 sacks. We should expect the linebackers to spy Russell on Saturday and look for opportunities to pressure him. In the secondary, Georgia has two potential 1st round picks in Ellis Robinson IV and KJ Bolden. Both have interceptions this season and Ellis Robinson IV leads the team with 4 pass deflections. Safeties KJ Bolden and Rasean Dinkins are top-5 on the team in tackles and Dinkins has a forced fumble. Kirby Smart led defenses are ferocious. They fly to ball carriers, are very physical in pass protection, and maintain pressure on opposing quarterbacks. This is an elite unit that will provide challenges for Alabama’s new-look offense.
Week 6 Storylines:
Ground ‘n’ Pound – Alabama’s rushing attack has finally emerged under Kalen DeBoer and is a great compliment to the passing game. Georgia prides themselves on stopping the run, something they have been very effective at this season. It is important for Alabama to establish the run game to keep Keelon comfortable. If Alabama continues to find themselves in 3rd and long situations, Georgia’s defense could get creative and force Keelon into dangerous situations.
Limit the explosives – Georgia’s passing attack constantly chips away at you with short routes and dump offs. It may not be exciting to watch, but Kane and the defense need to be content with the short gains and limit explosives. If Alabama can keep the ball in front of them, Georgia’s dink-and-dunk offense is not sustainable for an entire game. Forcing them into situations where they need to take shots downfield could put the Alabama defense at an advantage.
Let Keelon be Keelon – Keelon Russell is far ahead of where anyone (outside of the coaching staff) expected him to be right now. He’s shown incredible accuracy downfield when he has time to operate. The offensive line has played well this season and now they face the most difficult task thus far. It will be interesting to see what Ryan Grubb does to make sure he has time. Alabama runs a lot of heavy sets with two or three tight ends. Using these big bodies in pass protection or as decoys could allow Keelon time to shine.
Make the man in front of you quit – On both sides of the ball, this Alabama team has been incredibly physical up front. The likes of Devan Thompkins, Terrence Green, and London Simmons run through opposing offensive linemen, completely blowing up plays. Alabama’s offensive linemen are willing to pull and run downfield, hitting linebackers and even safeties. The tight ends often go in motion, delivering big hits to linemen much bigger than them. It is obvious that this team wants to be more physical than you at the line of scrimmage. Georgia may be bigger, but Alabama will hit you harder. This level of effort will go a long way in determining the outcome of the game.
